My experience with Chinese medicine began as a child. I was a patient of practitioners in Toronto’s Chinatown and Buddhist monasteries. However, it was my practice of qi gong as a teenager that inspired me to pursue a professional study of Chinese medicine. I knew that I wanted to be in the field not only for my own health but to be able to share with others as well.
In 2007, I graduated from the 4-year Practitioner of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine program at the Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences in Nelson, BC. My education included in-depth training in acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and TCM principles of disease. I was very fortunate to have had many excellent teachers and mentors during this time.
While in Nelson, I completed training in Neuro-Somatic therapy. A form of body work that integrates classical Chinese massage techniques with a modern scientific understanding of fascia and musculoskeletal structure.
In 2008, I began practice in Peterborough. My time working with people here has given me a depth of experience treating a variety of pain conditions as well as many chronic symptoms that have not responded to previous treatments.
In Chinese medicine, health is a sum of many parts. Your constitution, health history and demeanor all play a role. What and how you eat, your work, your stress level, your relationships, your age, your mental health, and where you live are all factors. It means adapting our lifestyle as we grow older to honour our aging bodies and our changing health needs. It means respecting the environment we live in and adapting our diet and behavior to the seasons. It means having an awareness of our mental and emotional health and how they impact our overall well-being and the development of disease.
Chinese medicine is an amazing and powerful system of health and healing. A traditional Chinese medical practitioner offers treatments for a very wide range of common conditions as well as offering a unique perspective for conditions that are difficult to diagnose and treat in conventional care. My training and expertise in diagnosing and treating internal health problems include digestive disorders, insomnia, migraines, menopausal symptoms, and other chronic and acute health conditions. I treat all age groups and have been trained in both pediatric and geriatric care. Many of my patients are new to acupuncture find that it is both gentle and relaxing.
Even after many years of practice I continue to be in awe of Chinese medicine’s ability to heal. I look forward to sharing these healing tools with you, so that you too can prosper in health.
